We kick start the day by visiting a local coffee roaster who gives us insight into the coffee industry, roasting process and a cup of fresh coffee to start the day (tea also available). From here we take a scenic drive as we make our way up into the hinterland to a private farm that grows unique seasonal produce for high-end restaurants. Wandering through the farm, we taste a range of freshly grown vegetables, edible flowers and anything else that may be in season.
Then it’s off to a local boutique Wagyu farm. We hear from farmer Ken and learn about how he raises healthy cattle that he provides solely to local restaurants and butchers. Ken has some interesting insight into the Wagyu breed and will also talk about his feeding regime which includes spent grain, leftover from the brewing process at a local brewery, which also happens to be our lunch destination.
Brouhaha Brewery uses a range of local suppliers in their restaurant sourced within 200km, including honey, mushrooms, eggs, cheese, seafood and, of course, Wagyu from Ken to name a few. The relationship between the brewery and Ken’s Wagyu cattle farm provides a range of beef available to the chef who includes this in the amazing lunch prepared for our group.
Our four-course lunch includes fresh seasonal local produce from the farms we visited earlier in the day and is expertly paired with a range of beer styles brewed on-site at Brouhaha Brewery in Maleny. We are joined at lunch by the chef and brewer, who share the local stories behind the food and beer.
As we say farewell to Brouhaha, we make one last stop to take in the beautiful views of the Glass House Mountains before descending back down the range to the coast.
This tour is the best way to enjoy local beer, local produce and local stories!
